TWITCHERS' REST

Untitled-13.jpg

With the uptake of bird watching as a pass time in the eighteenth century, the bird hide developed as an architectural typology.

Twitchers' Rest is a bird hide project set on the grounds on Wooleen Station in outback Western Australia. The once bustling cattle station has been transformed into an echo reserve where native birds flourish on the lake at the heart of the station.

On arrival, guests enter across a boardwalk to the humble bird hide that is perched on the edge of the lake.

The design aims to accommodate up to twelve people in sleeping pods while offering the unique opportunity to view the local birdlife at all hours of the day from the comfort of the hide.

The project seeks to take advantage of light and views while remaining compact and discrete in nature.
